It's the last call.
Some of our readers know all too well the signifigance of that phrase. In this case, however, it's the call for LIBI entries in the 10th Annual LIBI Awards. The deadline is August 15 and if the entry is after that date it's a question whether he will be served.
Yup, the awards are going strong with entries coming in almost daily. However, there are some members of LIBI waiting longer than expected and quite possibly might be waiting too long.
The awards were broadened this year to make it possible for many more entries, namely, kitchens, "going green," commercial building and expanding the projects of the the Associate members.
This column doesn't have to tell the reader the importance of the LIBI Awards. Over the years they have been published in House magazine and seen on television screens throughout the metropolitan market due to our TV program House Television. As a result, the awards have become a staple of a marketing plan for those who enter.
None of this would have happened had it not been for Peter Vander Schuyt, a builder and member of LIBI. He had entered the NAHB's MIRM Awards in 1985 with his project Carriage Hill Estates at Melville and received a Silver MIRM Award. Again in January, l998, Peter was awarded his second MIRM Award this time for his Stonington project at Port Jefferson. This writer was present at both award ceremonies since my company put together the artwork for both awards.
Bob Wieboldt was present in 1998 for those awards in Dallas and it was then decided the Long Island Builders Institute should have its own awards and thus was born the LIBI Awards. Within months, Peter and Bob put together the framework for the LIBI Awards.
So hurry up. Make the call and be in the 10th with the other winners.
