Editors Note

Even though the housing market is in a slump, life goes on.

This issue of The Builder & Remodeler is alive with editorial material that focuses on the other aspects of the home building industry, including Clara Datre’s run for Islip Town Supervisor. The "green" and the "affordable" issues are also capturing the imagination of the industry from the Bronx to Southampton. However, this issue is devoted to kitchens and throughout the publication members of New York Chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association show their work. Space in the publication is limited and therefore only a limited number of beautiful kitchens could be published.

The problems with the subprime market is causing a lot angst, but the National Association of Home Builders thinks otherwise. It’a good start. Bad news for the housing market gets the headlines, due to the greediness in the subprime mortgage schemes. Little did most people know about how mortgage firms threw away the book on credit.

On a more upbeat note, the cover story on Clara Datre is certainly an endorsement of her run for Islip Town supervisor. I’ve known Clara since she first joined the Long Island Builders Institute and she is truly one of most gracious and caring builders in LIBI.

When she wins the election, an articulate voice will be added to the political scene on Long Island.
